Tamil Nadu Covid-19 Pulse Survey (TNCPS)
With the unfolding of the pandemic in 2020, the TNHPS-PBS database proved useful in studying the impact of the pandemic in the state by serving as the base for the Tamil Nadu Covid-19 Pulse Survey (TNCPS). TNCPS, as a rapid response telephonic survey, was designed to take place at regular intervals over one year (once every 4 months) to assess the impact of the global pandemic and the subsequent lockdown measures over time on the same set of sampled households in the state. During this period the state had experienced the multi-dimensional impact of the global pandemic on various aspects of the economy such as employment, income and various other indicators from time to time. TNCPS can be best described as a “panel survey with refreshment” is aimed at providing timely, reliable and valid data to design polices to combat the impact of the pandemic.
The TNCPS was carried out in four rounds from March 2020 to June 2021 covering all districts of the state, exploring the pandemic’s effect on loss of employment, income, reverse migration, mental health, and the usefulness of the welfare schemes rolled out during the pandemic.
